AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is investigating a homicide in southeast Austin on Friday night.

Around 8:22 p.m. on Friday, police responded to the 3600 block of Chapman Lane near East Ben White Boulevard in southeast Austin after a report of a body in a ditch, according to police.

Police say the man, identified as 25-year-old Desmond Alexander Herrera, had obvious trauma with injuries incompatible with life. The man was pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m.

Herrera was an employee of a game room at 3612 Chapman Lane, police say.  

APD is still in the early stages in investigation and is asking for the public’s help on any information on the incident. Tips can be sent to the APD Homicide line at 512-974-TIPS. There is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Police are interviewing witnesses and are hopeful surveillance video can help with the investigation. The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
