SAN ANTONIO – Authorities have a man behind bars who allegedly kidnapped a woman after robbing a smoke shop on the city’s Northwest Side back in June.
According to an arrest affidavit, Paul Anthony Duque, 35, walked into Mellow Monkey Smoke Shop on Bandera Rd near Evers Rd back on June 19, “pretending to be a customer.” Duque reportedly picked up a few items and walked over to the cash register, took out his wallet as but then put it back in his pocket before pulling out a gun.
Court records state Duque pointed the gun at the cashiers, demanded all the money in the register as well as the items he selected to be wrapped up.
Shortly afterwards, police paperwork states the cashiers from the smoke shop saw Duque go to the nearby gas station, where he got into the driver’s side of a car with a woman in the passenger side. That’s when police say the 35-year-old pointed his gun at the woman and told her she was coming with him. However, the woman managed to open the car door and roll out while he sped off.
Investigators found the car abandoned at an apartment complex about two blocks away from the gas station. Police said Duque left behind several pieces of evidence at the scene, including a red, black and white Deadpool bandana, which allowed investigators to develop a DNA profile that was consistent with his known sample on file.
Duque is now facing several charges including Attempted Kidnapping and Aggravated Robbery.
