DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) — One woman in Danville is dead after suffering from an apparent gunshot wound on early Sunday morning, according to the Danville Police.
According to reports, Danville Police were called to a home in the 800 block of Buford Street for a reported shooting at approximately 3:22 a.m. on September 6.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a deceased woman, later identified as Lashanda Mecole Deshazo, 43, of Danville.
Family on the scene did not want to talk on camera but say Deshazo did not live on Buford St. They say she was visiting.
ABC 13 spoke to a neighbor who he says he doesn’t know the people who live there personally.
He says he normally sees a lot of people come in and out of the home frequently.
He told me in the 15 years he’s lived here, incidents like this don’t happen on this street.
“We don’t normally see stuff like that on this end and down Carter Street,” neighbor Dorsey Jackson said. “It’s been years ago a pizza guy shot a guy on this street, but that’s been years ago. That was even before I lived here.”
Officers said Deshazo’s body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Deshazo’s death marks the fifth homicide in Danville this year.
