TAMPA — A Tampa man was taken into custody Sunday morning following a shooting at a Tampa nightclub that sent three club patrons and a security guard to the hospital.
Tampa police took Michah Omari Dozier, 22, into custody Sunday morning in connection with the shooting at Club 1828, located at 5110 N 40th St. in Tampa’s Jackson Heights area, but have yet to announce any charges.
At about 12:40 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots at the small, detached building housing the nightclub. Inside, they found three people shot, none with life-threatening injuries. All three were driven to separate hospitals and are being treated for their injuries, police said.
Outside, police officers and security guards were surveying the scene around the building when they were fired upon by a drive-by shooter, police said. Police said one bullet struck a security guard. He was taken for surgery to a hospital and was reported in stable condition Sunday afternoon.
The vehicle sped off, traveling north on 40th Street toward Hillsborough Avenue before crashing a few blocks away. Tampa Police say Dozier, the suspected driver, and two others tried to run from the crash but were captured by police.
Dozier’s two passengers were released.
An investigation continues.
